Fright Night

I must say I am not a huge fan of horror movies nor vampires. Except for the classic Buffy the Vampire.
Anyways...this movie was great. It really was. It had me screaming and laughing. Not at the same time of course. But my fear was balanced with the movies corny comments and actions. And may I add Colin Farrell plays one good vampire. Sorry R.P (twilight) is no comparison.

Cowboys & Aliens

7 stars
Very cool film.
Very entertaining.
From beginning to end I was both laughing and jumping in my seat.
The blend of western with sci-fi was certainly a good one.
Harrison Ford delivered well as a grumpy man who displays little affection.
And as for the main lead, Daniel Craig was a good fit for the role and brought humor to the screen as well.
Definitely wasn't the typical movie, and if you have the chance to see it don't hesitate to.

Bad Teacher

I must say Cameron Diaz pulled of some evil stares in this movie.
She certainly had me convinced for being a bad teacher.
As for J.T well his performance was meh, but he sure makes a cute nerd.
In the end, good movie that actually teaches a good lesson.

Monte Carlo

Selena Gomez first starring role at the box office.
The plot entails 3 girls who venture to Paris, and soon find themselves in Monte Carlo after Gomez is mistaken for an heiress.
We also have the chance in seeing Leighton Meester outside her popular role of Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl.
In general the storyline was typical and quite predictable. I give this movie 6 stars.

Horrible Bosses

9 stars
My fave movie by far this year.

Hilarious x 3

I enjoyed this movie much more than Bridesmaids, and thought the guy cast was amazing.

Jason Bateman was awesome. But Charlie Spacey definitely stole the show.
I also have to say this my favourite role Jennifer Aniston has ever played. She really went outside the box, and pulled off a great performance. And hey she looks great as a brunette!

I would go in heartbeat to watch this movie again.

Cars 2

Good kids movie with a good mix of humor and spy action.
And of course cool cars and great graphics!
I have yet to see the first Cars movie, but I did enjoy this one. I give this movie 6.5 stars.

Super 8

Super 8 defines a great movie.
8.5 stars
I've waited far too long for a movie like this. It left me jumping, guessing and thirsting for more. This movie will leave you on the edge. The special effects in particular at the beginning were stunning, as well as the sound. I  also had the chance in viewing Elle Fanning; Dakota's Fanning sister, for the 1st time on the big screen (first I've seen her in a movie).  Like her older sibling, she has major potential as well as the remaining kid actors in Super 8- I look forward to seeing them in future films.

Thor

7.5  stars
I was very much pleased with this movie. It was nothing I had expected and definitely went beyond my expectations. Film remakes along with turning literature and comic book heroes into films are the latest trend. So after seeing Thor, I feared it would be another poorly made film. But it certainly wasn't. For starters, the special effects were amazing. The city of  Asgard and the bridge created between stars was stunning. Nothing I would have imagined. Chris Hemsworth on his part did an excellent job on portraying Thor, and no one could have done it better.
 His stance,
 His presence,
 His voice was key.

His co-stars were just as good, and my fave by far was Idris Elba who played the role of Heimdall. In th end, I'm going to guess that a sequel will shortly follow-but we'll just have to wait and see!

Bridesmaids

8 stars
Nothing can prepare you for the first scene of this movie.

Totally unexpected.
Totally inappropriate.

This movie surely didn't waste any time and jumped right into awkward moments that were just down right entertaining. What appreciated most was the main character's development in which they faced multiple problems and the movie didn't focus solely on one. All the bridesmaids in the movie of course had their own sense of personality that really gave this movie an edge, in particular Meghan. I have yet to see the Hangover, but if its anyway close to Bridesmaid I can't wait. This is a movie that will make you laugh and cry. I know I did.

Fast Five

8.5 stars
For starters, the actors in this movie were darn right good looking. One bonus from viewing this film. The clang come back to take down a drug lord and encounter  a few obstacles along the way. Although my memory is a  little blurred (after watching it so early in the morning,) in general it was a great film that had you guessing from time to time. It's been a while since I've seen movies from the Fast and the Furious series, I saw a glimpse of Fast and Furious (2009) but could not get into it. I personally still do very much love the first two in the series. Fast Five surely did make a comeback, and is one of few films that has an exceptional story line after its predecessors. Another feature I enjoyed from this movie was its' soundtrack, the choice of music was great in particular during the credits at the end of the film. I will be for sure buying this soundtrack. Currently I'm going to rate this film 4 stars out of 5, but my opinion may change after I view it again sometime during the week. If you haven't seen it already what are you waiting for!?!?!

Lemonade Mouth

8 stars
Disney's latest movie, starring some familiar faces like Bridgit Mendler from Wizards of Waverly Place, Good Luck Charlie and Jonas, as well as Adam Hicks from Zeke and Luther, and Hayley Kiyoko from Wizards. The movie was directly released to DVD and was also screened on the Disney Channel  and Family Channel. After viewing the movie, I would have to say this by far one of the best movies Disney has done so far since the Lizzie McGuire Movie. Other Disney movies such as Camp Rock & Startstruck certainly don't measure up. I was first surprised by the plot itself and the characters. Each character had real life problems that weren't toned down and were relatable. The story presents ideal issues in the high school environment and what it feels like as a student to have your voices suppressed. Another reason why I applaud this movie is due to the climax and the denouement. Instead of making the band Lemonade Mouth win the Rising Star contest and ending the movie on a fairy tale note, the script goes beyond that and explored the major issue-The real reason for the band: to make the voices of students to be heard. The amount of work that went into the choreography and the soundtrack amazes me.  The band members truly delivered an exceptional performance, in particular in my favourite track "Determinate". That performance sequence was by far my favourite scene in the movie. I cannot get over how well the song was performed, in particular Adam Hicks rapping. I am definetly recommending this movie to others and would say this movie received 4 stars out of 5. Next- I'll be purchasing the soundtrack.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Limitless

6.5 stars

I had the pleasure of watching both Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Limitless about a week ago. I had never seen the first in the series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but found II: Rodrick Rules very entertaining. It showcased the ups and downs of a kid in elementary school and sibling rivalry. In short it was a great movie for the entire family to watch and I would rate it 3 stars out of 5.

8 stars
I had waited months to see Limitless, and was ecstatic once I got to see it. Like I expected I personally found it way better than Inception. The movie had me jumping a bit, and yelling at some of the characters for their stupidity, but also gave the audience a chance to ponder the events to come. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and loved the ending even more. The beginning title sequence I found was very uncomfortable. The motion of the camera making you feel as if you were zooming through objects and locations was genius but nauseating. It was a unique way of depicting the main characters experience while taking NZT. I also liked how the beginning of the movie began with a scene from the ending of the movie. In general I thought the proper film effects were utilized in the film, and this is surely a film I would love to purchase on DVD. This film gets 4 out of 5 stars.

And the Oscar goes to...

Ultimate Fail.I was lucky enough to catch the opening of the Oscars yet alone the presenting of one. And one was all I had the time to see. That's right, the first Oscar goes to....Alice in Wonderland for Best Art Direction-an award well deserved. As I predicted, Black Swan would only leave with one Oscar, while the King's Speech and The Social Network dominated the scene. I ponder till this day why on earth did the King's Speech lead with the most Oscars-yet again I have yet to watch the movie, and perhaps my judgement will change once I do. I was rooting for Inception to win Best Original Score Music, and was dissapointed to see that The Social Network had stolen it beneath it's feet. Hands down, Inception should have won. Their winnings for Best Sound Editing and Mixing, just wasn't the same. Perhaps you beg to differ, but I feel like the King's Speech was another one of the English based films, like Young Victoria and The Queen-classics of boredom. I can never sit to watch any of them till the end, and doubt I will be able to do the same for the King's Speech. Well there you have it, another year gone by of Oscar Madness, can't wait to see what 2012 holds!

The Oscar Buzz

It's sad. You may even think I'm a hypocrite.
The Oscars are coming up, and I barely know half the buzz.
Considering I'm a major movie lover, yeah it's just down right pathetic. To be honest my goal was to try and see all the movies that were nominated for Oscars and make my own predictions and compare them later to the actual winnings. As you can see, that will be a fail this year. But I will definitely try alot harder next year. And keep an eye out. To date, I have seen Black Swan, Tangled, Alice in Wonderland, and Inception (I think those are the only four I've watched  that have been nominated). But to be honest although I never saw what the big deal was with Inception. I do hope that Inception grabs an awards for Best Score Music. Although this may sound bias considering I haven't seen a handful of the movies nominated- but in comparison to the past movies I've seen in 2010 and 2011, Inception by far had one the best score music I've heard since Transformers(2007), where Steve J. was in charge of the original music. I'll try my best to catch a glimpse of the Oscars.

Defrosting of the Swan: Black Swan

On January 28th, I had the honor in viewing Black Swan. After anticipating the event for months, it was a relief to finally sink in the cinema chair with eyes straining to view the masterpiece at hand. What had first caught my eyes, was the trailer I had viewed months before. It was a dark twist to a delicate story in which urged me to view the movie as soon as it came out. Minutes into the movie, I had pondered the choice of screen shots the director had went along with. Multiple shots were filmed from the shoulder upwards, and we frequently viewed Natalie Portman's back of the head. I got the feeling that as a audience we were following  Portman, I ponder if this was a deliberate effect the director had wanted to achieve. The storyline itself was simple, the dark twisted fantasy of psychological mind games, and sexual pleasures brought the movie to another level. Had I foreseen this from the trailer? Not at all.  Yet again, the movie itself was completely different then what I had envisioned from the start.  The end was simple but the final line made a profound statement; and I applaud the directing of that scene as was all the script. Although  the scene I enjoyed most commenced from the climax ending towards the denouement where she finally is transforming into the black swan and performs it on stage. The score music that went along with the scene, as well as the stage makeup and acting I thought was well executed, and played a major role in bringing the movie together. All in all, i would rate this movie   7.75 stars out of 10.

It is one of those movies, that I would need to see again, in order to fully take in it's wonderful aspects.
